Company History

What began 1925 with the production of reflectors has become a renowned enterprise today with an extensive product range for the two-wheel industry. On first September 1925 businessman Willy Müller, then 16 years old, and the toolmaker´s foreman August Busch founded the enterprise Busch & Müller in Meinerzhagen. The production range consisted of the manufacture of reflectors whose, increasing use was founded in a new legislation regarding the security of bicycles. At that time, the approval office for this product program was in Berlin. In 1930, 8 employees were occupied at Busch & Müller. On their 50th anniversary in 1975 they already had 65 employees.

In the meantime, the range of products of the company now includes reflectors, rear lights, bicycle headlights, dynamos, rear view mirrors, chain guards, stabilsers for children´s bicycle and other two-wheeler accessories. To ensure the product quality was not neglected, in 1997 the enterprise was certificated according to ISO 9001, a certification standard which is required for the motorcycle industry. The products of the bicycle branch also profit from that.

Amongst the newest light technical developments of Busch & Müller are the light revolution IQ-TEC, the strip light technology “LineTec” for rear lights as well as LICHT24, the world wide first Day Rid light for bicycles. Earlier, Busch & Müller has also been a forerunner and trendsetter: The first approved dynamo LED bicycle headlight and the standlight function for bicycle headlights and rear lights also have their origin in Meinerzhagen.

As early as 1930, representatives of the company had been on the move in the whole of Germany to introduce Busch & Müller products to potential clients. At that time, sales force travelled the country and presented an already large range from a sample case, which was part of the equipment of every sales representative.

The company does not only produce for the domestic market but also for export. In almost every country in Europe, from Finland to Italy, representatives of Busch & Müller are active. B+M products are also exported overseas. Through constant flexibility, adapting to the market, pursuit of improvement in products and production and initiative in business thinking, the company has managed to develop with the times.

The ever-increasing product range and demand meant a new company building was necessary to house production capacity and office space. After many years of negotiations with the city of Meinerzhagen, the new building “auf dem Bamberg” could be built between 1961 and 1964. Today approx. 180 employees work there on a premises of over 10,000 m². Since Sep 2015 a further 5,000m² is in building.

During the company’s entire history, the uppermost priority was and is the development and advance of products for vehicle security. Thus, the company owns a number of patents and certificates in the area of two-wheel lighting, vehicle mirrors as well as various innovations and design prizes of the county North-Rhine- Westphalia as well as the industrial forum Hannover, of which the company is especially proud.

Due to this extensive product range, it is not surprising that Busch & Müller has a comprehensive customer list. The company supplies all bicycle factories and bicycle trade in Europa. The following count to the most important buyers on the motorcycle sector: BMW (Germany), KTM, Sachs Motor bikes , Peugeot, MBK (France), Honda(Belgium, Spain, Italy).
